Due to the southern region of Thailand being in the monsoon zone, experiencing heavy rainfall for approximately eight months of the year, flooding is frequent. A severe flood in November 1988 caused significant damage to highways, including districts like Phipun and Lanska, in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, and parts of Surat Thani province, as well as loss of life and property. Urgent repairs and reconstruction of bridges were necessary.
Bridge Construction and Rehabilitation Center 1 (Phichit) and Bridge Construction and Rehabilitation Center 2 (Nong Khai) quickly repaired and rebuilt the damaged bridges.
However, this operation faced challenges in transporting machinery, tools, and equipment.
The Department of Highways therefore recognized the need to establish a bridge construction and rehabilitation center in the south to be responsible for the construction and rehabilitation of bridges throughout the region.
Bridge Construction and Rehabilitation Center 4 (Nakhon Si Thammarat) was thus established on August 17, 1990, with a temporary office in Hua Sai District,
Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Later, the Royal Forest Department granted permission to use an area of 40 rai, 2 ngan, and 75 square wah of the Khao Khod National Forest Reserve, Nong Hong Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, on February 1, 1992. The Department of Highways then approved the budget for the construction of a permanent office and residences for civil servants and employees. The construction of the office and residences is now complete. The office is currently located at 92 Moo 7, Nong Hong Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat 80110.
